Where am I on the Wait list?
The Housing Choice Voucher Program, commonly known as Section 8, is the federal government’s major program for assisting very low-income families, elders, and people with disabilities to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. We do not keep wait list numbers as we pull batches within a given year.
Currently we are pulling applications from the year: 2011
If you applied after this year, we are not pulling your application and do not have an update. When your application is pulled, you will receive a letter in the mail.
I don’t remember when I applied. Can you help?
Yes! If you applied with our agency, you can contact our Gateway department to ask what year you applied. Please include your full name and last four digits only of your social security number.
Do I need to keep my household composition, income and contact information updated?
Yes! Please fill out a new application with any changes and we will update your original application. Please note, this is ONLY for people who have applied prior to January 13, 2025. The waitlist is not accepting new applications after January 13, 2025.
Please see the paper application form attached below to make updates. Please mail the completed form to Metro Housing Boston, 1411 Tremont St., Boston, MA 02120.
How long from the time I apply to when I get a voucher?
The current wait period is 10-12 years. We are required to pull applications based on time/date of the application and cannot provide any assistance with moving up the list. Please note, once your application is pulled, you will go through an eligibility briefing to see if you qualify for the voucher. It is not a guarantee you will be eligible.
We do not offer emergency housing. Please contact ResourceLine@metrohousingboston.org for emergency assistance questions.
