I received a termination letter and don’t know why: Moving Without Notice

If you have received a termination letter, it will state the reason for your pending termination. Please read the letter carefully:

As stated in the Family Responsibilities and Important Program Information form which is signed by you (the head of household) each recertification, the family is required to follow rules of the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program. If anyone living in the household violates any of these obligations, the family may be terminated from the program.

Part of this form and under the ‘The family must’ section, the family must:

14. Notify the Agency and the owner in writing before moving out of the unit or terminating the lease. Notice to move requirements are specified in your lease.

If you have received a letter for termination due to moving without notice, this means it has been reported to our agency you moved out of your contract unit without approval and without providing proper notice. All reports are investigated and verified. You as the head of household are responsible for staying compliant with the program and terminating your lease with proper notice.

How to Appeal a termination for Moving Without Notice

In the event you receive a termination letter and feel our decision to terminate you from the program is unjust, you can submit an appeal to our agency. To do this:

Appeal Hearing

You will receive a response regarding the status of your appeal from the Hearings Department within 15 business days after the date you appeal is received. Once a hearing is set, you will need to attend virtually or by phone and provide any supporting documents or discussion on disputing the report. The Hearing officer will provide a determination either at or shortly after the hearing. They will also communicate any additional appeals if they uphold the termination.
